The new Open JAL tool allows developers to download local and network-aware applications to all iDEN Java-enabled handsets. This new version removes all access restrictions and supersedes previous versions of this tool. The Open WebJAL tool will work on all iDEN-network handsets.

This new version of the Open JAL tool was modified to benefit the iDEN developer community by:

• Eliminating the need user IDs and passwords
• Erasing the wait time associated with account creation
• Lifting handset limitations imposed by previous versions of the tool
• Providing an open, Motorola-trusted standard that supersedes previous, modified versions (that eventually cause bugs in handsets)

This version is for iDEN-Network handsets only.

To use and/or install the Open Java Application Loader, your system must meet the following minimum system requirements:

• Pentium® 300MHz equivalent processor or later
• Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista
• 128 MB RAM (recommended)
• 10MB free hard disk space

Notes

For i876 and derivative products, switch the USB connection on the handset to "Application Access" when using the iDEN Java Application Loader by pressing Settings -> Connections -> USB -> Application Access.

After installing the Java Application Loader on Windows Vista, it may fail to communicate with the handset the very first time it's run. Close the iDEN JAL application and restart and it will work from then on, even after subsequent reboots of your PC.
