MOTODEV Studio for Java ME

MOTODEV Studio for Java ME

By targeting the Java ME environment, developers can create applications for the widest array of Motorola handsets. MOTODEV Studio for Java ME provides a powerful set of APIs, tools, and documentation – all pre-integrated and packaged with the highly popular Eclipse™ platform – so you can focus on creativity while maximizing productivity.

As an option, a standalone version of MOTODEV Studio for Java ME – MOTODEV SDK for Java ME – designed for use with UEI-compliant IDEs such as NetBeans and JBuilder – is also available.

Features in Version 3.0

  • New! Eclipse Galileo: MOTODEV Studio and MOTODEV SDK are now based on the Galileo release of Eclipse.
  • New! Pulsar Plug-in: With Version 3.0, what was formerly MOTODEV Studio for Java ME is now available as a plug-in to Eclipse Pulsar, offering the same perspectives and tools to which MOTODEV developers have become accustomed.
  • New! Generic Device Support: In past versions of MOTODEV Studio for Java ME, device support was specific to particular handsets. Version 3 offers support for handsets grouped by key features such as form factor, the presence of flip screens and keyboards, as well as the type of display.
  • Demo Tool: View information and screenshots from available demo MIDlets and import MIDlet projects directly into Studio for Java ME.
  • Network Monitor: Monitor and analyze data packages from various protocols.
  • Enhanced Deployment Tool for sending an application to a handset and tracing the download and execution of the application.
  • Improved On-Device Debugging for remote debugging on handsets that run the Motorola OS.
  • Java ME Emulator uses the Sun Java Runtime Environment to simulate the MIDlet environment in Motorola handsets, with an interactive "skin" of the handsets. Lets you select the data transmission speed for the emulated device.
  • Bluetooth Service enables Bluetooth communication among multiple emulated handsets.
  • WMA Test Server enables multiple emulated handsets to send and receive SMS and MMS messages.
  • SIMConfig Service allows the user to create SIM card configurations that can be used with emulated handsets.
  • Libraries for Java ME development for Motorola handsets, including CLDC 1.1, MIDP 2.0, JSR 75, 120, 135, 172, 177, 184, 185, 205, and many other Motorola specific APIs, such as Secondary Display API and Scalable Image Enhancements.
  • MWay loads MIDlets onto handsets via USB cable and generates system logs for debugging (P2K handsets only).
  • Signing Tool allows you to import certificates and then sign MIDlet suites with them. Consult Motorola's application testing and signing procedures for Java ME for details.
  • Config Tool provides an easy way to read/write some specific internal handset configurations.
  • Landmark Storage Service provides a way to manage the main Landmark Storage configuration file, allowing MIDlets that use JSR 179 to access stored information. You can now register, exclude, research and exhibit landmarks.
  • Update Manager keeps installed components up to date; responsible for authenticating the user, downloading, and installing new features.
  • NetBeans Project support: imports NetBeans Projects into the MOTODEV Studio workspace
  • Sample MIDlets and tutorials
  • Context-sensitive Help and integrated documentation that includes Javadocs, user guides, and Motorola device specifications listing supported Java and Motorola APIs as well as media formats.
