Monkey Pole Climb and Fire Hawk take the Grand Prize; Gob N Frog and Crazy Kart named runners-up

MOTODEV and I-play are proud to announce the winners of the MOTODEV Game Developer Challenge, a competition that recognizes independent developers who are creating "the next big thing" in mobile gaming. The winning games were unveiled in a special event at the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment conference on October 23, 2007.

In the "Best Java Software Game" category, Paul Carruthers and his independently developed game, Monkey Pole Climb, received the grand prize for play on the ultra-slim Motorola MOTOKRZR K1 handset. Monkey Pole Climb is a challenging combination of speed and strategy that is fun to play and maddeningly difficult to conquer.

Chen Jianbo took the grand prize in the "Best Windows Mobile Game" category with Fire Hawk, an exciting vertical shooter featuring dynamic aerial combat across six separate missions, designed for play on the powerfully functional MOTO Q family of devices.

"With submissions from over 22 countries worldwide, competition in the MOTODEV Game Developer Challenge was fierce. Today, Motorola and I-play are pleased to recognize the innovative developers behind the winning applications and reward them with the ultimate prize – a global publishing contract," said Christy Wyatt, Vice President, Software Platforms & Ecosystem, Motorola.

In addition to an I-play publishing contract, Grand Prize winners receive prize packages including promotion of their applications to the developer community, a briefcase full of the coolest new Motorola products and a selection of I-play's hottest titles.

Gob N Frog by The Mighty Troglodytes was named runner-up in the Java category, while Int13 Production's Crazy Kart took runner-up honors for Windows Mobile. Each runner-up will receive a special, 1-on-1 consultation with our panel of esteemed judges for market and channel feedback, promotion of their applications to the developer community, a briefcase full of the coolest new Motorola products and a selection of I-play's hottest titles.

Games were judged on uniqueness, fun factor, design, operation and innovation in visual arts and audio. Quyen Quach, Senior Manager for Games at AT&T Mobility and a member of our judging panel, said: "Some of the entries were really creative, out-of-the-box thinking and made great use of every inch of the phone screen... It was inspiring to see some really great stuff coming form small teams or a single person, but it's also a result of having easily accessible tools and resources for ANYONE to make their own mobile games. And that's very exciting!"

Another judge, Wireless Gaming World's Hugo Reyes, agreed. "The MOTODEV Game Developer Challenge was a great and effortless way for smaller developers to get noticed and show their capabilities, some of which really went all out and put their best foot forward. I was surprised by the variety and inventiveness of all the entries, all of which showed the desire to truly entertain. Congratulations to all of the finalists and especially the winners of the competition."
