Use of Java™ Technology-Based Class Loaders to Design and Implement a Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME Platform) Container (TS-7575)
Christian Kurzke - Architect, Developer Platforms, Motorola, Inc.
Gustavo de Paula - Senior Consultant for Wireless Technologies, C.E.S.A.R.
Thursday, May 8th
10:50 am – 11:50 am
Moscone Center - Room 300
This talk will describe mechanisms for sandboxing Java ME applications, using a sophisticated classloading structure to create a Java ME runtime environment and simulator. It will also outline a way to efficiently manage the creation of a single SDK supporting many different mobile devices, each supporting a different subset of the required and optional JSR features. This technology is currently used in the Motorola mobile phone emulator included in the MOTODEV Studio toolkit.
Sometimes a Java ME developer needs to provide a container – a software component providing a unique set of APIs on top of a base platform. In order to design and implement such a container, it is necessary to answer several basic questions:
- Which APIs should be available to the application running in the container?
- Are all container APIs available from the base platform?
- If they are not, how will those additional APIs be linked into the container?
This session explores some possible solutions involving the theoretical part of applied classloading technologies, and it will include a brief demo of a prototype product.
Attendees of this session must be familiar with the concept of Java classloaders and the Java ME Platform.
* Winner will be announced at 4pm on Thursday, May 8th. Winner must be present to win. Winner must be 18 years of age or older. Motorola employees do not qualify to win.
