LinuxWorld 2007
Attendees who visited the Motorola booth at LinuxWorld 2007 discovered our latest resources and services to help them create and deliver great mobile applications for our suite of products. What's more, our onsite staff of experts directed attendees to a host of exciting activities and events that took place at the show.
On the first day of LinuxWorld 2007, Motorola announced the debut of MOTOMAGX, the company's Mobile Linux platform. MOTOMAGX is the next significant step in demonstrating Motorola's commitment and leadership in Mobile Linux. Building on the global success of Motorola's earlier Linux-based platforms, MOTOMAGX delivers new levels of openness, flexibility and support for third-party applications on Motorola devices. MOTOMAGX supports three different application environments, including Java ME with WebUI and native Linux in upcoming releases. The WebUI application environment combines underlying Web 2.0 software technologies with access to local device resources, enabling developers to easily create personal and contextually aware Web 2.0 experiences for handsets. The following day, developers attended Motorola's "Fast Track with MOTODEV" event. This event was designed specifically to give developers exclusive access to the tools, resources and go-to-market programs they need to create and deliver applications on the newest Motorola products — and into the hands of billions of mobile subscribers. Motorola also offered three sessions designed to help developers target opportunities within the mobile ecosystem:
- Opportunities for Mobile Application Development
This session, moderated by Motorola market development manager John Hallman, featured a panel of experts who discussed opportunities for third-party development within the mobile community across a variety of categories, including enterprise, games, location-based services, emerging markets, creative markets and embedded technologies. - Five Easy Steps to Building Mobile Applications in MOTODEV Studio
Hosted by Lori Fraleigh, Motorola Senior Product Manager of Developer Platforms and Services, this session provided attendees with insight into creating applications using MOTODEV Studio, an integrated development environment offering developers a fast and easy way to create applications that take advantage of the latest functionality in a wide array of Motorola's products. - Open Source, Motorola and You
At this session, Motorola's Guy Martin explained the current state of Motorola's Open Source community participation efforts, future plans and how developers could get involved. He also provided a brief overview of opensource.motorola.com as well as information on other open-source projects in which Motorola is participating.
In addition, Motorola offered these activities at their MOTODEV booth throughout the three-day event:
- Face time with our business development team. Attendees took advantage of the opportunity to meet with the experts dedicated to their success and show off their Linux solution.
- Live, relevant support. MOTODEV developer support engineers were on hand throughout LinuxWorld to answer the toughest technical questions and provide real-time support.
- Test drive MOTODEV Studio for Java ME. Attendees checked out the first release of our new Eclipse-based integrated tools suite, designed to streamline Java ME development for the latest Motorola GSM and 3G handsets, including the Linux-based MOTO ROKR z6 and MOTO RAZR2 v8 handsets.
Finally, Motorola announced its upcoming series of MOTODEV Summits, where developers can participate in advanced training while getting a peek at the next generation of Motorola devices and technology. With more than 35 program sessions and tutorials, the MOTODEV Summit is designed to enable developers to explore new solutions and resources, learn new ways to design for the ever-changing needs of enterprises and consumers and understand the current trends that may impact their development strategy and execution.
