Q & A with Simon Walker

Michael Hennel, Technical Market Engineer, Enterprise Mobility business, Motorola, Inc. will present "Using Mobility Services Platform for Software Deployment and Updating" and "Extending Mobility Services Platform through Plug-ins" at the upcoming MOTODEV Summit in London. MOTODEV recently caught up with Michael and asked him a few questions about his session and about the Motorola Mobility Services Platform.

Q. Why is your session important, and what will attendees learn?

A. Today’s mobile computers are complex, requiring more complex configuration and deployment solutions to keep them operational maximizing productivity.

Q. Tell us about the Motorola Mobility Services Platform – how does it aid IT deployments?

A. The three most important aspects in a mobile unit life cycle is staging, provisioning, and control. Staging is making a unit mission ready to perform work. Provisioning is the act of keeping the unit compliant with all the proper data files, settings, and applications. Controlling is the ability to locate a unit and remotely access it or prevent its operation. Asset management, reporting and data.

Q. What MSP Plug-Ins exist to help manage enterprise deployments of mobile hardware

A. Lock and Wipe, AutoSiteAssign, Get Adapters, are examples of plug ins. They are a collection of software that runs in the units background checking for conditions and modifying the behavior of the unit based on control object settings.

Q. Are these technologies only for mobile handsets?

A. Currently, MSP is focused on Motorola EMB units, though expansion into the other Motorola hardware is in progress.

Q. Where can developers go to get started with the Motorola Mobility Services Platform?

A. http://Support.symbol.com is your starting place to learn more.
