Submitting Applications to SHOP4APPS - Guidelines and Tips

Applications made available in SHOP4APPS must pass testing, review, and certification prior to being published. All applications are reviewed against the submission criteria identified in this document. To expedite the submission process, before you begin be sure to review the submission criteria and have the following available:

Submission Criteria

1. Binary Testing

Testing will be performed on the binary. The app must be able to download, install, load, run in suspend mode, pause, exit and then uninstall on the OS versions you have specified.

2. Content Requirements and Review

All content must comply with the Motorola Content Policy for Developers.

Title, Description and Short Description

The Title, Description and Short Description should be entered in English first as the fields prompt. The Developer may then enter this information in Chinese. Applications are reviewed for the following:

  • Proper use of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and for description clarity
  • Must NOT contain offensive language
  • Must NOT include content other than the app description (e.g. no promotional content, short codes, email addresses, links to other web sites, localizations, or information on other supported platforms or operating systems)
  • Limited use of HTML [bold, underlining and italics are acceptable]
  • Should NOT include Trademark names that the application developer does not own (e.g. Motorola, Google, Android, etc.)

Support URL

The developer must provide a URL for a web page where consumers who purchase/download the application can find out how to get end-user support for the application. On the web page, the consumer should be able to see the title of the application they are inquiring about and be able to easily ask a question about the application without having to Join. A simple form or email address where the consumer can receive support for the application is acceptable.

Marketing Copy and Screenshots

  • Screenshots must be oriented in ‘portrait’ style as stated when developer uploads
  • There should be three unique screenshots (no duplicates)
  • Screenshots, and content within the screenshots, should be clear, of the specific application submitted, shown on a Motorola device, and should not mention device manufacturers other than Motorola (e.g. Nokia, iPhone, Blackberry, etc.)

EULA

The Standard End User License Agreement (EULA) applies to all applications distributed through the Motorola Application Delivery Channel, however, some developers may elect to include additional content in this field.

  • Ensure the content entered is relevant to the application and company
  • Must not contain language, photos, etc. that violate the Motorola Content Policy for Developers
  • Should not include advertisements

3. Certification

For certification of your application, please ensure the approved API permission and protection levels are assigned. Permission declarations for signature or signatureOrSystem permissions will be rejected as they will not work without special signatures from either Motorola or Google.

Ensuring a Successful App Submission

Most applications submitted pass testing, review, and certification initially. Applications that Fail are returned to the Developer Dashboard and the developer is sent an email that the app has failed along with information on how to update and resubmit it. To update the submission information and upload a new .apk file, log in to the Developer Dashboard.
