September is Motorola Month at Cingular devCentral

Cingular's devCentral has teamed up with MOTODEV to bring you the latest tools and resources for developing for Motorola devices on the Cingular network. Spotlighting several of Motorola's iconic phones, Cingular is also featuring new MOTODEV content about debugging on the SLVR L7. Don't miss the chance to sit in on a technical chat with MOTODEV engineers September 28, 10-11 a.m. Pacific Time (5-6 p.m. GMT).

China Java ME Competition Results

On August 27, Motorola and Sun announced the winners of their China Java ME development competition, held in association with J2MEDev.

Dalian University of Technology's Creative College team won the Mobile Applications Group with its 2D barcode recognition app and Guangzhou Netease Interactive Entertainment Ltd. took top honors in the Mobile Entertainment group for their "3D Magic Tower" adventure game. Both were designed for the E680i handset. Jilin University's "Candy Mobile Team" won the Student Group with their "Candy IM" messaging app, running on the E680 and A780.

New SDK Released for i880 Handset

The Motorola iDEN i880 SDK for Java™ ME Technology supports the building and emulation of Java ME applications for the iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network) platform. This tool provides developers with Java ME platform APIs and iDEN extensions for the Java ME-enabled handset i880.

Recently Added: Motorola USB Driver

The Motorola USB Driver is used for connecting your Motorola mobile device to a computer running Windows 2000 or Windows XP via a USB cable.

NOTE: Installation of Motorola Phone Tool may affect the performance of this driver. Please re-install the driver after the installation of the Motorola Phone Tool.

Now Available: Version 2 of the UID Extraction Tool

The UID extraction tool provides several utilities for developers creating applications for Motorola OS Products. This newly updated tool enables:

  • KDWP (on-device debugging), which allows developers to debug MIDlets while it runs on a device
  • JAL (Java application loader), which makes it possible to download MIDlets to compatible Motorola OS products via a USB cable

This new release still provides the same UID and IMEI extraction features from version 1.0.
