New Unified Documentation for Motorola OS Developers.
New this month on MOTODEV:
The Java ME Developer Guide for Motorola OS (
, 1.9 MB). This new guide pulls together information for all handsets using the Motorola operating system – such as the MOTORAZR2 V9 and MOTORIZR Z3 – in one simple document. Java ME developers using this prevalent platform will value the unified and clear guidance this guide provides. Check it out today, and come back for more documentation enhancements.
Ever wanted to trigger a light show on a handset with your MIDlet? Controls over "Funlights" are among the additions to MOTODEV Studio for Java ME, version 1.2. Also included is support for JSR 211 (Content Handler) and handsets such as the recently announced MOTOROKR E8.
Funlights can be found in the main display, keypad, sidebands, navigation key, and, sometimes, in the Motorola logo of Motorola handsets. Now, you will be able to coordinate funlights with the ringer, games, karaoke or jukebox applications, and timing functions such as an alarm clock or stopwatch. If you aren't using MOTODEV Studio for Java ME yet, get it today!

Emerging Technology - Near Field Communications
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a fast emerging short-range wireless connectivity standard that significantly simplifies the interaction of consumer devices across a range of applications. Though fairly new, NFC has evolved from a combination of existing contactless identification and interconnection technologies, most notably RFID. The technology can be implemented in mobile phones or other portable devices to enable secure electronic payments. Read more...
- Changing JAR Files Manually
Sometimes it becomes necessary to make a small change to a MIDlet post compile time and outside of an IDE. For example, the MIDlet name may need to be changed and the MIDlet source code or MIDlet project files are not available. This article demonstrates how such a change can be implemented without recompiling the MIDlet in an IDE and without the original MIDlet source code.
