MOTOMAGX is Motorola's next-generation Mobile Linux® platform, demonstrating Motorola's commitment to and leadership in Mobile Linux. Building on the global success of Motorola's earlier Linux-based platforms, MOTOMAGX delivers new levels of openness, flexibility and support for third-party applications on Motorola devices. MOTOMAGX supports three different application environments — Java™ ME, WebUI and native Linux — providing developers more choice in selecting the environment that best fits their application needs. Motorola's WebUI application environment, based on WebKit, combines underlying Web 2.0 software technologies with access to local device resources, enabling developers to easily create personal and contextually aware Web 2.0 experiences for handsets.

Early generations of Motorola's Linux-based platforms, including MOTOMING A1200, MOTOROKR E6, and MOTOROKR E2 only support Java.

Motorola is also taking a leading role in driving standards around Mobile Linux, as one of the key founders of the LiMo Foundation. The LiMo Foundation aims to create a world-class Linux-based middleware platform and API specifications. MOTOMAGX will be based on the LiMo middleware platform, while the other layers of the MOTOMAGX platform continue to evolve for competitive differentiation.

MOTODEV Studio, Motorola's robust platform for developer innovation currently supports the Java ME application environment on all MOTOMAGX devices.
